Down Syndrome Extra 21 - Support and Information on Down Syndrome in Essex

Down Syndrome Extra 21 was formerly known as the North East Thames Branch of the Down Syndrome Association (DSA). Although still affiliated to the DSA, we consist of parents, carers and people with Down syndrome and are run by an elected committee of volunteers covering Essex and Greater London. Our main aims are:-

to promote equal opportunities for people with Down syndrome and offer support to them and their families.
to promote public awareness of Down syndrome and to encourage local support groups.
to provide information through conferences, workshops, newsletters and this website.
that all funds raised are used to further the activities of Down Syndrome Extra 21.

Our work to date covers

information days for professionals, parents, carers and people with Down syndrome.
information packs for hospitals, GPs, and new parents.
education packs for mainstream and special schools.
visiting local schools, hospitals and education authorities.
providing 3 newsletters each year to all our members and other interested parties.
organising social events to encourage families to meet up and share ideas.
helping to support other local groups supporting people with Down syndrome.
