These are some of the questions you may ask when you first find out your child has Down Syndrome
Your child is a child first and foremost who just happens to have Down Syndrome. Like all children, he will have his own personality and may be loving and kind or headstrong and trying or a mixture of all of these.
Your child is an individual like any other child. She will have your genes and resemble other family members but with some or all of the Down Syndrome characteristics added.
JUST KIDS is a book collated by Mary Schultz and Deidre Clement, of Down Syndrome Extra 21 based in Essex, which we hope will help you to see that this is not the end of the world and there is light at the end of that dark tunnel when you first find out the news that your child has Down Syndrome and may not grow up as you had secretly planned.
All the parents of the children in the book believe their child is special for many reasons and would like to share with you some of their achievements and hope you find encouragement from their beautiful smiling faces. A picture tells a thousand stories and these positive images may help you to feel more positive about your family’s future. We certainly hope so.
