Firebreak course Oct 2012

Once again Maldon Fire station was the venue for our latest squad of budding Fire Fighters to be trained by fantastic Instructors from the Essex Fire and Rescue  Team ably assisted by a very competent new instructor from one of our earlier courses in Harriet Smith.

Three and a half days of training and our timid individuals had turned into a well oiled team, ready to take on everything that was asked of them. The aim of the course is to encourage communication, problem solving and new skills that they will be able to use in everyday life. From day one they were trained in drill skills,  along with mess duties to reinforce the importance of safe handling of equipment and hygiene. Then they were onto the fun bits, Hose running, first aid, ladders, and finally search and rescue procedures.

On the final day the whole squad put on a demonstartion of all they had learnt and showed just how far they had come in such a short time, they were confident, enthusiastic and well drilled, all working together making all the parents proud of their marvellous achievement.

A real big thanks go out to all whole of the Essex County Fire and Rescue Service and in particular the firefighters who give up their own time to carry out this event and without whom it just wouldn’t be possible.
