Activities at Essex Outdoor Centres for outdoor learning

Essex Outdoors centres are running  activity days for disabled children and their families throughout the coming year around the county.

Activities such as Archery, Canoeing, Aerial runway
Caving, Climbing, High Ropes, Sailing, Quad Bikes and much more…

All the activities provided will be appropriate for those attending.

Those children eligible should be aged between 8 and 18 years old and live within the administrative boundaries of Essex County Council. There are NO CHARGES for activities.

Essex Outdoors can also organise other dates if there are sufficient numbers e.g. from a few families or maybe organised by a DS support group. For those that may not qualify for the funded places (e.g. over 18’s and those in Southend and Thurrock) we can also arrange activity days and residentials, though there would be a charge. Any of the centre would be happy to help

Activity/Sailing Days: Weekend and school holiday activity days for disabled children supported by carers known to and organised by the child. Activities may include archery, climbing, aerial runway, speedboat, quad bikes, sailing and high ropes, dependent on the facilities at the chosen centre. Participants provide their own lunch.

Canoe Days: Starting from Hoe Mill Lock on the Chelmer and Blackwater canal, enjoy a day paddling along this tranquil canal. Canoes will be rafted to ensure stability. Participants will need to provide a packed lunch.

Family Open Day: For families with disabled young people to take part in activities together. Activities may include archery, climbing, aerial runway, adventure course and caving.

One-Night Activity Break ~ 2 days of activity: One-night fully catered residential stays for disabled children supported by carers known to and organised by the child. The programme will include two days of age and need appropriate activities based on the ability and needs of the individuals identified during the booking process. These may include canoeing, sailing, archery, zipwire and high ropes, dependent on the facilities at the chosen centre.

Mersea Island Festival Day Visits: Funded carer places for children attending the Mersea Island Festival with a known carer for a day visit. The Mersea Island Festival is an inclusive camp that takes place at the centre each August offering a range of indoor and outdoor activities, meals and evening entertainment.

Mersea Island Festival Residential: Funded carer places for children attending the 3-night camp of the Mersea Island Festival with a known carer. The Festival is an established inclusive camp that takes place at the centre each August offering a range of indoor and outdoor activities, meals and evening entertainment.
